A Mystical Land is one of the first projects released by Neonga, a company formed by former executives of Runes of Magic publisher Frogster. A Mystical Land’s 3D graphics are striking and its gameplay is very polished.

Once you’ve picked your class from the starting selection of warrior and priest, you can still do just about anything you want, even opting to play the entire game without fighting anyone. There are deep crafting and cooking systems as well as aspects of the game that progress through fishing, bug-catching, gardening, farming, woodworking, blacksmithing, tailoring, etc. The interface is very simple, making A Mystical Land an excellent game for tweens. If you’re a parent, looking for a game to play together with your tween – Mystical Land is a perfect game for that.

Mystical Land has a lot of quests and exploring areas. After a short and limited character creation process you are dropped into Oak Valley, a starting area that comprehensively teaches you everything there is to know. Through a series of quests you are taught how to cook, craft, gather and fight. There’s a surprising amount you can actually do in “A Mystical Land”.

Combat is the standard affair. Clicking on an enemy will initiate a battle, whilst an action bar at the bottom of the screen lists spells, abilities and feats that can be used to defeat them more quickly. The controls are also very traditional, and will be familiar to anyone who has played a MMORPG before. Completing quests and winning in battle results in experience, and upon levelling up, you are rewarded with combo points that can be spent on unlocking or upgrading class-specific talents.
